to swear an oath 

Dr. Scott Hahn gets it right
when in Swear to God he writes:



To split open the carcass
of the sacrificial offering
and to walk through
the severed halves.

There are Seven Sacraments.
On the Cross of Calvary
Jesus' heart was sevened 
by the spear of Longinus
and the veil of the temple
was torn (sevened) in half.
